My dogs did the same thing. Things will probably even out. They're
digesting something TOTALLY different for the first time.

Dont' worry at all. On raw, they have no filler in their diet to produce the big bowel movements. One of my dogs is regular (with incredibly small poops), the other goes every 2-3 days with one normal sized poop (by kibble standards).

Count your blessings!

I can fit 40Lb of raw food, separated into ziplocs, into my APARTMENT sized freezer. Granted, I have 170 lbs of dogs (2 dogs) so I go through it fast, but still, I have not much space and can still buy in bulk and get groceries for the hubby and myself...though, of course, we come last ;)

Yes.

I have a cat who developed a bowel obstruction with a rabbit bone. It
required veterinary intervention to shift it. I will add that this cat is a
rescue who has had something "not quite right" about him from day one
(lovely boy, though) and although he has some anamolous blood values, no vet
has been able to put a name to the "not quite right" thing about him, yet.
Fortunately, he recovered nicely from the obstruction and he's under
homeopathic treatment these days.

I will also say that our unfortunate experience with the bowel obstruction
has NOT put us off raw feeding at all. This cat has something wrong with
him health-wise (even if they can't name it, yet) and feeding him an
inferior diet will not help him out in the long run. As a matter of fact,
he had rabbit for breakfast today...

Nothing in life is guaranteed safe. But I know the risks (including the
risks of NOT feeding raw - lived through those, thanks, won't do that again)
and I know the warning signs and my decision to feed raw is an educated one.
Points to you for being open to learning!

Hi, Laura!
About 15 years and 8 dogs experience, but no serious
problems here.
Even fed a dog with Irritable Bowel Disease - he loved his raw meat
and bones! Just had to adjust fat intake and meal size/frequency for him.
My recommendation? Don't wait for the new freezer! Just jump in, and
buy in bulk when you get one! : )

Laura,

We haven't had any serious - or non-serious - problems feeding raw.
However, I do well remember giving Duncan that first raw meal and thinking I
had just signed my dog's death sentence. There is a lot of cultural
learning we humans have to undo to get comfortable handing a RMB to a
beloved dog. Where you are right now is normal, but all the research and
statistics available won't make it that much easier to hand your dog a bone.
At some point, you will just have to decide to do it or not. Best wishes on
your decision.

Laura, I know how you feel. I was really concerned about these risks
when I started feeding raw. It's been 1 1/2 years now and no serious
problems. I still have concerns but the positive changes I've seen in
their health overrides the concerns.

And, on the freezer, I was going to wait also but I happened to find a
good deal at Best Buy, 3 years no interest on appliances, pay $20 a
month. You might shop around for that kind of deal.

I didn't reach that point until three weeks into raw when my cat
stopped eating and then developed a progressively worsening diarrhea.
Couldn't avoid the guilty thoughts at that point.

In hindsight, I think she stopped eating because I still had her on
just chicken and she was bored with it. I'm not sure the cause of the
diarrhea but I don't think it was a pathogen. I know enough
homeopathy I was able to set her straight very quickly once I put the
effort into thinking through what she needed.

Started her up again and introduced as much variety as I could. No
problems at all since then.

My three previous cats all died from problems I think could have been
helped greatly by raw, so I have no regrets. I'll take the
possibility of issues from raw against the almost guaranty they will
die prematurely if I don't feed raw.

FYI on freezers:
I got mine freezer at Sam's Club for $125.00 and
$25.00 for delivery. It's small but it holds what I
use. They also have larger freezers and you can buy on
line.
My dogs have never been healthier since I have been
feeding them raw. They have been on it all year. I
have dogs ranging from 14 months to 9 years old. I
have 2 german shepherds, a standard poodle and a lhasa
apso. I have had no bouts of diarrhea (which was
chronic with the 3 older ones before raw). In fact we
haven't been to the vet except for my 14 month old
shepherd who, unfortunately, has severe hip dysplasia
in both hips. They are lean except for my male
shepherd who is getting there.
I was very hesitant in feeding them raw because of the
cost, the "mess" and the "tradition". All of my vets
do not approve. I do believe that my dogs are happier,
healthier on it.

I've switched 7 dogs over 5 years, and no problems.

Please don't forget that no one "blames" kibble when those dogs get
serious health problems. Heck, I even saw a dog that choked on a piece
of kibble on one of those vet tv shows - they thought it might die -
and the vets never blamed the food! If it was raw it would have made
the evening news.

BTW I fed from my house freezer for years, you just can't stock up as
much during good sales.
