Thanks Chris!
You said Slippery Elm powder if I "NEED" to soothe the intestines...
How do I know when they need soothing vs just blow it out?

Hi, Mary!
IME SEBP won't preclude the dog's body's natural response to
'blow out' whatever is bothering it. Its not a 'stop them up' med or fiber
supp.

In the stomach it takes on a mucousy consistency and coats the stomach and
digestive system while traveling through.

It does soothe internal irritation and inflammation, and helps break the
cycle of irritation/inflammation = loose/runny stools =
irritation/inflammation that sometimes happens when a dog eats one thing/one
time that sets him off, for an unknown reason.

Using SEBP in conjunction with fasting and l/s l/f broth to relieve possible
dehydration concerns, gives the dog relief from discomfort while you
formulate a plan - tweaking of the diet - less food, less/more bone, less
skin/fat, a different protein, more frequent but smaller meals, whatever.

Or, in the case of "I don't know, maybe he scrounged something that
disagreed with him", it soothes while you fast and allow the dogestive
system to get back into "whack".

I started raw when all that recall stuff was going on. I too was worried
about the "horror stories" Unagainst the advise from everyone I asked my vet.
Now his clinic is large 5 vets..and a very large client base. Told him I
was worried about the dog food recalls he said I had a good to reason to be
concerned. Then I dropped the bombshell that I was thinking of going raw.
WELLL he stated that the "problems associated with raw are (insert usually ones)
then he added a BIG HOWEVER we have a very large client base that feeds raw
and I can honestly say that we have never seen any problems from feeding
raw..in fact as a whole they have less health problems.. Then he said if you
feel comfortable with it go for it..I did..

Hi everyone....thanks in advance for all the knowledge that you will
share with me here. After battling allergies with our Chow mix for the
last year, I am ready to try a raw diet with him (and our other dog as
well). So far, I've fed them raw for their last 3 meals. Nothing
terrible has happened yet!

My big fear/concern comes with bones since they are both gulpers, but
I'm sure I can help them to learn to chew....and I might look into
grinding if I have to.

I appreciate all of the info that has been sent to me already by the
moderator.
