I think this depends so completely on the dog in question that it's
nearly unanswerable. If you're already feeding raw and you know your
dog is enthusiastic about it and does fine with, say, rabbit, and you
have a whole rabbit available, go ahead & try it. If you're still
feeding kibble, or if your dog is still having trouble getting used to
the raw food concept (my dog didn't, but apparently some do), I'd hold
off on the whole food.

Some dogs (Ricco, y'think, Chia??) would be positively traumatized by a
whole bunny flopping down on their kitchen floor. Others would
probably get a delighted mad gleam in their eye and thank you for
finally catching on.

When you think you're both ready, try it & see what happens.
