Jenn,
I know everyone is mentioning to feed outside or in the kitchen but
other options are to feed on a place mat, a towel, in a shallow bin,
or even in a new cat litter box from the dollar store. I feed my dog
on a place mat and I fold it in half and store it in the freezer until
I can get around to washing it. It is a carpet texture because my dog
insists on eating on the carpet.
