I feed my adult dogs outside, year round; I feed the cat and the
pupster inside. I also feed senior and/or impaired dogs inside.

First you teach the wanderer to stay put. This is not hard. Once
the eating is contained to a mat or towel or section of vinyl table
cloth or shower curtain or whatever, the traveling bacteria issue
will pretty much be resolved.

Second, if you have to do any clean up, soap and water is just
dandy. Spritzing with vinegar/water is also wonderfully effective
and not harmful to dog or environment.

Salmonella is not likely to be big deal from food; if your dog poops
in the house though you might have to worry.

Oh gosh and one more thing-at what age do you switch from two

I think it ultimately depends on the dog but I'm ready to pull the
plug on two meals at around a year. By then though I've already
transitioned to one small meal and one large meal. Ditching the
small meal when the time comes is no big deal.
