[rawfeeding] Re:2 day old kitten (was Re: Help

Hi,
I've been lurking, reading emails but this is my first post. I had to reply to this question. I too acquired a 2 day old kitten (he is now a healthy 3 year old). Research newborn kittens on the internet. You have to do EVERYTHING for them. Keep him warm, get some Mamalac from the vet (kitten formula), you have to wipe his bottom with a wet cloth (you are his mother and that is what she does - if you don't, he can't eliminate.) When you feed him, don't hold him like a baby - he could choke on the formula. Keep him on his belly. I found using an eyedropper worked better than the little bottles that come with the formula. He will need to be fed often. Keep him with you. I did this for about 1 week while I was trying to find a foster mother for him. I believe that they receive the best (milk, care, socialization, instruction) from a mother cat. I found a woman who's cat had kittens one week older than Oliver. She was willing to foster him provided that I take
him back when he was old enough. We showed Oliver to the mother cat, she rolled over on her side and let him nurse - no questions! He took a few tries to get going, but I was so relieved when he finally got the hang of it. I think it was the best thing I could have done for him - besides now introducing him to raw.
