I completely agree with Ginny on this one. If you go back and look
at my first posts about starting raw feeding with my dog, in 2003, he
was 70ish lbs. At the time I thought that was a "perfect" weight.
He gradually lost about 5 pounds of padding and he now looks far
better than he did with those extra 5 kibble pounds.
Also, if you're relying on actual numbers from a scale, bear in mind
that the scales in use aren't necessarily accurate. I've found
variances of over 5# from one vet's office to the next. I just don't
weigh him anymore -- visual checks, IMO, are a much better indicator
of proper weight.
Do be aware that once you "re-set" your eye to what a dog's proper
condition is, you'll be disgusted by the number of fat dogs out
there. I'd say easily 80% of the dogs I see are considerably
overweight, and probably a quarter of those dogs are grossly obese.
Poor things.
