[rawfeeding] Re: Raw feeding a 1.5 pound puppy ?

Hi,
I'm a newbie and started my two Yorkshire Terriers on raw a few days
ago. My 11 year old 9 pounder and my 1.5 pound puppy. I started them
with chicken thighs. The older one wouldn't touch it and went hiding.
The puppy dragged it around for 30 minutes and couldn't get ANY meat
off.

Hi Nadia,

There are lots of people on here with small dogs, 3 to 10 lbs.
Mine is 9 1/2 lbs & 9 yrs old!

Please check out the past posts, there's lots and lots of information
on feeding smaller dogs.

You need to start with one protein and chicken seems to be the best
one.

Pork can give dogs runny stools as it's a fatty meat and needs to be
introduced slowly.

Start by giving a chicken breast, bone in. Break the bone down by
covering it with a towel and beating it with a hammer till there are
only small bits in it.

Try chopping it up into small chunks, especially for your older dog.
Also older dogs need less bone. If he has bad teeth then it may take
him a long time to be able to eat larger
pieces. You should probably consider having them cleaned by a vet to
make sure there are none that are infected and prevent him from
eating.

Since they already have runny stools try removing the skin from the
chicken till the stools clear up.

You can rub the chicken with cheese or butter/lightly or even
sear it on the outside to get the older one to try it.

Sometimes putting salmon oil on it works too.

Don't start the older one on organs till you've gotten him used to
eating the chicken.

Just give the little one the tinest amount of organs with his chicken
breast after a few days of eating till you see how they will affect
him (don't want runny stools)

You can use a baby wipe after they're done eating.

Get some old towels out and teach them to eat on the towels.

Put down food and if they leave the towel, put it back on the
towel,they will catch on quickly.

Hope this helps......Just keep reading the posts and you'll be amazed
at how much you'll learn and how many of us are here!

P/S if you haven't watched Ed's video of his little one eating raw you
should, lol. Here's the link........
