[rawfeeding] Re: New to RAW
You know Lori...I am owned by 3 pit bulls too and they are also new
to raw feeding....began when my boy showed allergies as a puppy to
grains. So I am not an expert by any means but I had a gulper too.
My boy could swallow half a chicken quarter! So I began to feed the
whole chicken quarter...he didn't like it that big...at least not
yet so I got on the floor with the peices and held them...it worked
great..once he liked the chewing and realized that the others were
not going to take his food he has slowed down and started chewing
all by himself...so maybe try bigger and just help her out to get
used to chewing..Hope this can help.

owned by 3 beautifully talented Old Family Red Nose American Pit
Bull Terriers. I have concerns of feeding raw bones. I hear it is
good for them. They won't choke bla bla bla but infact in the past
few days i have read stories of blockage due to small bones,
prolapsed rectums from straining, choking ect. I started out just
giving them a chicken wing, seemed to go over well, then moved on to
chicken backs. it has bits and pieces of organ meat still on it.
must be good for them right? well 2 dogs chew and crunch away but my
little pup who is almost a year old gulps her chow. chokes, pukes,
gulps and so on. once the ch. back got stuck in the throat and i had
to retrieve it out. so now i am shell shocked on bones. These dogs
are my pride and joy and if i do something to create pain i just
don't know what I'd do. so i have been grinding the backs in a hand
meat grinder, then putting them in a food processor and making it
mush. this takes alot of time not to mention it is NASTY *haha...so
i would love to hear suggestions and comments about starting out on
how to feed raw and getting over my fear of bones.
