[rawfeeding] Re: Any raw fed pugs here??

We successfully switched to raw 3 months ago. Our adopted a 4 yr old
purebred Pug (Toto, 28lbs) and a 11 year old Shihtzu Cross (Joey 23lb)
really enjoy the new diet.

I use pkgs of Club Canine ground Chicken Backs & Necks incl bones;
Organic Beef and Organs; Beef Tripe (unbleached); Ground Turkey with
liver and heart plus Papaya Enzymes for digestion.

When I remember, I add Salmon Oil, kelp, alfalfa, glucosamine (huge
improvement in Joey's limp), liquid vitamins.

Sometimes, I buy green beef tripe from the slaughterhouse (smells funky
but they love it). I cut it too big the 1st time and Toto threw it up.
I cut it again and he ate it, no problem. Raw beef tripe is tough to
cut but it came out all soft and rubbery like melted process cheese.
After that I was convinced that their stomach acid could handle bones.

1st, it took Toto 12 minutes to eat a chicken thigh. Joey only 5 min.
2nd time I had to brown the chicken skin for Toto to get interested.
Small spare rib pieces were no problem. Both are only interested in
raw organ meats if I saute lightly (smells better for them).

These house dogs get walked 3x day but continue to gain weight,
especially since they got neutered. I've started reducing their
breakfast by cutting their meat by half and adding fresh raw veg/fruit
that I ground up in the processor (freeze in small bags) They like them
cooked too (leftovers).

I give them 1/2 to a whole raw egg once a week. They get overdone
poached egg or the leftover egg froth. Also, I give them a marrow bone
once a week or so.

Tried fresh Lamb Tripe recently, but the new food caused runny poop.
Haven't figured out what combo works in that dept !

I'm going to try N-R-G dehydrated raw dog food when we go on our camping
holiday.

Good luck with your Pug, Rebecca !

here on this list or are their any pug breeders that feed raw that may
be able to give me info I can forward to her??
