RE: [rawfeeding] Re: Carbs?

As this was explained to me, dogs do not need carbs, but do need, in
small amounts, veg & fruit, i give Kiera RMB's in the morning & minced
meat (ground) in the evening mixed with any veg & fruit, cabbage, peas,
carrot, brocoli, basically any veg except onion, plus any fruit i may
have, banana, apple, orange, peach etc: done into a gloppy mess in a
juicer or blender, she also gets garlic 2/3 times a week & 3 eggs a
week too. As Kiera is a gsd & is not a very good eater sometimes, i do
sometimes mix into her evening meal some wholemeal mixer biscuits but
only if she is not eating well at any time, just too bulk it out a bit.
At the moment, i don't give any suppliments, but perhaps when winter
comes i might think about it.
I am aware this may sound different to your raw feeding, but i live in
England & this is the diet as it was explained to me by a friend who
has been feeding this way for many years, she also weans her pups onto
this diet.
Margaret.
I would be interested to hear from anyone on what they think of this diet.

### hmmm... well, I am one of those do things very much 'by the book'...
in other words, it is important to me that I feed my dog as close to natural
as possible. How he would eat if he had to care for himself.

Wolves/Wild Dogs would NOT be eating exotic vegetables, fruits, or even
'garden variety' types, they would be eating carcasses of small animals or
feasting on flesh of large herbivores. They lack the digestive enzyme in
their saliva to even break down the cell walls of veggies UNLESS you process
or cook them first. That alone is the only proof required to NOT bother
feeding these.

Carnivores, predators, derive ALL the nutrition they need from the FLESH
of animals that eat vegetation. It's as simple as that. Those incredible
teeth have a purpose, to shear flesh, crush bones. To feed away from
nature's template usually leads to some sort of inappropriate outcome,
either excess fat from fast meals that are already ground, poor oral health
, due to not enough gnawing and mashing...or some sort of skin issue due to
the sugars in inappropriate fruits and veggies.

My dog will not have a long life, although I wish he would live forever.
BUT, I am going to feed him to prolong pristine health for as long as
possible since he has no say in the matter. That means NO carbs, grains,
sugars. Just flesh, organs, eggs, bone. My boy is also a fussy eater but
that's fine. He is gorgeous, lean, eats alternate days, once a day, to
promote a strong appetite which encourages large items that require effort.
There is NO garlic..no biscuits...NOTHING inappropriate like that. If you
stuck to appropriate items only, and fed once per day, you will notice her
fussy eating habits will regulate and her body composition will become as it
is supposed to be if you stick to feeding whole prey or LARGE pieces only,
guaranteed.

After a couple of days of pleading eyes, the once a day feedings will
eventually eliminate fussy behaviour and if you want to feed the odd veggie
now and then, as long as you realize it adds NO benefit, it certainly isn't
harmful but she will probably quickly turn her nose at those.. (smart
girl).. and feast on items nature designed her to anyways.

Feeding the way you do or your breeder does, may produce healthy dogs, or
what may seem to be, but not as incredibly healthy as they can be long term
when fed as close to nature's design. Much like kibble fed dogs, they seem
fine for now, but as the half way time of life approaches, some small health
issues may manifest.

Just imagine a National Geographic program on dingoes or other wild dogs
and remember, your dog is NO different. Just spoiled... ;-)) You know what
is best for your dog and she relies on you to care for her. Do what is
best, and feed how she would feed herself if she lost you. Hunting rabbits
or chickens..... luscious slabs of meat. That's a dog!
