[rawfeeding] Re:OT

Hi, I know this is off topic
I just lost my 9 year old boy who had been very healthy. (he has been on raw
for years) This part may not be related...I had taken him to the vet the
week before as he had gotten into something that caused sever itching and he was
pulling his hair out -- rear feathers -- in clumps. I tried homeopathic and
nothing was helping...he scratched until he got a staph infection. Anyway, the
vet gave him a dreaded...my vet hates it too...shot of steroids and put him
on Keflex for the infection. He was on the antibiotics for a week and things
seemed to clear up. Oh, and the vet commented on how wonderful of shape he
was in...said he doesn't have an ounce of fat on him...solid muscle.

I had him out in the am and did some agility training and play...nothing
unusual or different...being a lazy Sunday, in the afternoon I was going to take
a nap before doing the floors. My boy got up on the bed and seemed to be
breathing funny...his sides looked moved...the only way I can describe is like
he had the hiccups, but he did. I got up not panicked or anything...he threw up
just a tiny bit...a little eggshell in it...I let him out and he just peed
and came right back in...I checked his gums and they looked normal...he looked
a little full in the ribcage area, so I called a friend...to make a long
story short I figured I better take him to the ER clinic figuring the worse that
could happen was that I'll dump some money there. On the way to the vet he
started to sound like he was going to throw up but when I looked over the seat
in his crate he hadn't...ER about 20 minutes away. He did this twice...I
then heard three loud noises...the only way I can describe it is that it sounded
like when a bear growls/yawns...I pulled into the parking lot and when I got
to the side door and opened he had stopped breathing...I ran like hell to
get him in there but they did not even try to resuscitated him...he had just
stopped breathing so I thought they would try but they didn't.

His tongue was blue and they said that it looked like he bleed out or
something...maybe a cyst, tumor, or aneurysm...I wanted an x-ray to see if anything
could be seen...and obstruction or anything but they said it probably
wouldn't see anything...I wanted to find out how a dog that seemed healthy could
just die like that. They would not cooperate...at home I started to wonder if he
had bloated...was it related to what I fed the night before...he ate several
turkey necks...one of his favorite and I gave him a few extra (not a daily
or weekly type meal)...I don't know...

My heart is broken and I can't seem to stop crying...I miss him so much that
I can hardly stand it...when I have had dogs that were old it is expected it
is hard but I think the shock of this has been even harder.

Thanks for listening...
Carole
